Hansen has 35 years of government affairs experience on the state, national, and international levels, as well as expertise in the formation of public policy on health care and issues related to America’s aging population. Prior to joining Barr, he managed a successful public and government affairs and issues management consulting business and from 1989 through 1996, played a strategic role in the creation and development of The Seniors Coalition.
During the Reagan Administration, Hansen served in the White House Office of Public Affairs and held senior public affairs positions in Washington-based public interest organizations, including the American Conservative Union, and represented such clients as the Commonwealth of Dominica, Global Economic Action Institute, National Day of Prayer Committee, and the Center for Developing States. From 1981-1982, Hansen worked for U.S. Senator James McClure and prior to that worked in the Idaho State Senate, as a Special Assistant to the Idaho Attorney General, and managed numerous Idaho statewide
