Finishing up his eighteenth year in the Iowa House of Representatives, Christopher Rants served four years as the Speaker of the House. In addition, he was elected by the Republican caucus to the positions of both Majority and Minority floor leader.
Rants currently serves as the co-chair of the National Conference of State Legislators’ Taskforce on Telecommunications and Electronic Commerce. He is a past board member of both the National Speakers Conference and the Legislative Leaders Foundation.

In addition to his work in state government, Rants started a 527 group - the Iowa Leadership Council - to advocate for specific public policy initiatives. His previous professional experience includes working for Metz Baking Company as their environmental compliance coordinator. During his time at Metz, the Environmental Protection Agency amended the Clean Air Act to include bakeries, and it was Rants’ responsibility to develop and implement a compliance plan to obtain permits in eighteen states from the west coast through the Midwest, as well as installation of abatement equipment in non-attainment states such as California and Illinois. He also managed a plan for the removal of underground storage tanks company-wide.

Rants graduated cum laude from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where he currently resides with his wife and two children.
